Picks and observations for Tues. 9/9/03
--ESST...Looks like it could attempt a breakout within the next couple days.
--PWN...Watching for a bounce up off of trendline support @ $17.10 ( & rising ).
--FTUS... seems to be setting up for a trade higher. Maybe 10% or so to test resistance at the gap.

Picks for Wednesday, 9/10/2003;

After reading a few chapters of Stan Weinstein's Book "Secrets to Profiting in Bull and Bear Markets", let's test what I've learned from the
"master tape reader" himself. I think these stocks fit
Weinstein's Phase II Theory, When to buy, early entry points.

NANX
CATZ
FAOO

TX good catch finding that early squeeze on CATZ there. Was it the same filter you used to get the other 3?

It's been along time since I read Stan Weinsteins book so please correct me if I'm wrong but if memory serves me he was looking for stocks about to break above resistance after forming a basing pattern. I may be getting him mixed up with Oneal's technique. Here's a for instance, EMBT is about to break resistance ( rather than a stock that has already broken resistance and may now drop back down to test support at the old breakout resistance level.)
EMBT is up against resistance at a cycle high formed on 7/18/02 @ $10.40 forming a 15 month base and is oversold on daily stochastics. ( not a true breakout as there is plenty of higher prices back in 2001, but what is very appealing is that the stock fell so fast in between 3/02 and 7/02 that it looks like it left little to no areas of resistance. If $10.40 is broken and holds then there's a good shot at $18.25 ) Weekly chart stochastics look a tad overbought but very bullish as they have been staying in the top 30% of the indicator for some time and volume is coming into the stock on reasonable gains. This cup pattern has a low volume ( desirable ) handle that formed from 9/4 ~ 9/9. The stock has not been able to close above $10.40 yet. For entry points there is a descending wedge on the 5 minute chart that has a breakout point at $10.26 and then there's the 15 HR.MA that is support at $10.12.

NANX could possibly succeed in breaking out but what I don't like about that one is that it had a big run today just to get to resistance and will likely be tired. There will likely be a lot of traders that see that resistance and decide to bail. Last time it had a day of big gains it took 7 days to consolidate. But we'll see.

FAOO looks OK. Volume is too low for me though.

Only significant support for CATZ is at $4.10. ( then $4.05 and $4.00 ). Picking it up at the close today puts support at least ( -6% ) lower. Chart looks good but, IMO, timing is everything. It could easily test, say, the 15 HR.MA at $4.14 ( & rising ). Or consolidate until one of the hourly chart MAs ( usyually the 15 or 25 HR.MA ) rise to meet the price.

The volume was extremely heavy today so its also possible it will keep going. What I'm trying to say is that it is in kind of a technical no mans land, and not offering what I would call a low risk entry point right now. Low volume stock here too. But thats just my humble opinion.
What ever you decide, good luck.

CATZ came of a seperate filter here it is:
Fetcher[Show stocks where volume gained more than 400 percent over Average Volume(10) and volume is above 50000 and close is between 1 and 10 and add column average volume(10) {AV10} and date offset is 0]

Yes, his charts show about three years, then his Phase I is a long consolidation, the Phase II (buying Phase) is when volume, RSI and he say's a 30-week MA starts to rise. I just ran thru all my filters on a 3y/weekly chart at Prophet.net. Very interesting how stocks look after reading Stan Weinstein's book and scanning thru a bunch of filter picks. Just to let members know, I bought my book used from A1Books in Fairfield, NJ and paid only $2.27 for the book plus a small shipping charge. This is the best stock book I have ever read, everone should read it. Easy step by step instructions on how to find winning stocks. http://www.a1techbooks.com/, plus I got the book in only three days, good company to do business with. txtrapper

If you want to see stocks in phase II, check out the precious metal stocks - GSS, HL, CDE, BGO, CBJ, DROOY etc... I could go on and on. They all have great looking charts, huge volume increase, above 200 MA, and no recent resistence. They might pull back between now and the 2004 election but after that they will shine. DROOY and CDE are my favorite - I own them both.
