No Kevin - sorry but I TOTALLY disagree - I have made more money using your filters and ideas than any other time in my life.
Your modesty is nice but man you are truly one in a million.
Thank you

Kevin, Can you explain any adjustments you are using with this method currently to
invest in SPY and AGG.

Thanks!

This thread hasn't been active for some time, but here's an ETF trading version I like...

Fetcher[
symlist(ugaz, dgaz, fas, faz, tna, tza, erx, ery, edc, edz, nugt, dust, jnug, jdst, upro, spxu, uslv, dslv)
set{rsichk1, rsi(5) + rsi(5) 5 days ago}
set{rsichk, rsichk1 + rsi(5) 10 days ago}
add column rsichk
sort column 5 ascending
draw rsi(2)
draw rsi(2) line at 70 on plot rsi(2)
rsi(2) < 35

/*Entry at open next day*/
/*Exit at open day after rsi(2) closes above 70*/
]

Full disclosure:
: The filter above is a starting point with a lot of potential IMO, but it has to be adjusted to individual trading styles and risk tolerance.
: I dropped upro and spxu.
: I use the previous day's high as my entry (cross above or below). Gap ups don't count unless price crosses below the previous day's high during the trading day. If it doesn't hit the previous day's high then there is no trade and you move on to the next day's candidate. Buying at or above the previous day's high would likely give you more profitable trades, but I like the idea of setting your entry the night before and not having to worry about trading at the open.
: I use a 5% stop loss...rarely hits that so far but you're glad it's there when it does.
: I use a close above the 70 rsi(2) as my exit the next morning at the open. From what I've seen this is a conservative approach and I'm happy with the results until I have a lot more trading history to work from.

rsichk is the sum of the rsi(5) from three points in time...today, 5 days ago and 10 days ago. rsichk is displayed in ascending order, which gives you the weakest rsi(5) sums at the top.

Thanks

I use a very simple filter to trade SPY using RSI(6). You simply buy when RSI(6) is below 45 and sell when RSI(2) is above 70.

The trade wins 72% of the time over the past 10 years. You can increase the win % to 75 if you only trade when the 40ma for SPY is positive.

It will win 78% of the time if you double down when RSI(6) dips below 20.

Good for about 15 to 20 trades a year.

Novacane,

When you use the backtesting offered by SF, do you put $95,000 per trade or?

and What does the 2 yr $100,000 grow to?

Thanks!

Dash
p.s. for me it had a similar p/l but I had a touch time showing the growth of the equity.

For the last 2yrs (2/1/13 - 2/1/15) 100k turns into 111k.

You wont get rich with this filter. It has to be one of many that put the odds in your favor.

What is your average trade duration? I ask because I have been reading a lot about using weekly options (mostly selling covered calls). A system that has a high win % might be a good system to use in this context.

Novacane,

You said -- "For the last 2yrs (2/1/13 - 2/1/15) 100k turns into 111k."

Is 111k correct? I calculate that if you had simply held SPY for that period of time you would now have about $138,000!!
