Bingo! And, why I'm NOT daytrading anymore.
Surely, you guys are on the same lists I'm on ...
My two recent emails:
"How to Compete against Computer Algorithm Trading"
.. and ..
"Are Human Traders becoming Obsolete?"

Seriously.

The time frame best suited for retail individual traders like us is probably 2-20 days, not long term, not intraday. Not that you can't make good money in those time frames, but it is just getting too hard to compete with the bots on one end, and the other end is equal to just buying and holding a mutual fund.

Algo trading has limitations. Those models really prey on less sophisticated investors/traders. While the concept of a model accumulating wealth in a bull market is appealing, from what I have seen you have pretty significant disadvantages in relation to the human eye. the most glaring is you set parameters..i.e. In JCP @ 2.80, want to exit at 3.30. If it drops after exit to 3.05, it automatically buys some more. problem is many times you are in at 2.80, runs to a top at 3.29, then drops to 3.06. if you follow that scenario, the human hand is more efficient. and it happens a lot with algo trading. finally, algo models could include shorts but most 'assume' a bull market as a back drop...which right now would be very dangerous in my humble opinion.
