shillihs, what are your thoughts on just taking XIV for the year, holding through any consolidation periods. i think you said you might always have some XIV in the portfolio. i just go back n forth on it. Also, wouldnt you avoid contango issues by holding SSO instead?

I did always hold a small position but the risk reward is getting less and less.
You should start following Seth Golden for how to play contango. He's pretty good.
Having said all that, I do think Xiv is going higher and holding a core and adding on dips for until trend ends, or scaling out on the way up and getting back in around Lower standard error or Lower bollinger band is the play until trend ends. Now knowing when trend ends is a challenge. But when you do, shorting Tmv is the best play, provided you have the stones to do it. Quite honestly, I'm getting tired of the market. Even with a nominal win throughout that crap yesterday, I find flipping real estate at the right time, more rewarding and more grounded.

indeed. the most i have made bar none was flipping land in a hot market. but your exit strategy is pretty much non existent, which deters me. finding undervalued foreclosures was profitable for me as well.

Forgot to mention I'm short Jnug.

Good point on the exit. That needs more research. But one good thing with foreclosures is if the market goes bad, you kind of break even since you bought at a 40% discount, or you can simply just rent it out.

Shills,
Go to www.investing.com. Sign up it’s free. Create a portfolio of what you like to trade.
Create a new chart. I created an Area chart. On my chart I have the 5(ema) and 13(ema). I also added the SAR at .02.02.02 and the Bollinger Bands at 18.2.
I only added one indicator – SMI Erogodic Indicator/Oscillator. Set the Shortlen to 5, the Longlen to 20 and the Signlen to 5. Save the chart and give it a name. Select the chart. You can now select a symbol in the right pane to view a chart. What is nice about this free tool is that you can watch live charts 1 min, 5 min, 15 min, 1 hour, 2, hour, etc,,,,,. You can get in and out for some of these quick movers you like to trade. For example I’m watching DGAZ right now. The SMI indicator is getting close to flashing a buy on the 2 hour chart for DGAZ. You might be able to get in an back out on the 2 hour crossovers and make some money. I always scan through the different time chart frames to see which timeframes performed in the past. It appears there is an ideal timeframe for each ETF. For example the 4 hour looks good for NUGT/DUST.

Pthomas - I think those were the default settings. I think your settings are even faster. So are your settings 4-10-4?
