Does anyone know of a website which has historical intraday prices. For example, price at 7am, 7:30am etc. half hourly or hourly. Yahoo has historical prices, but only open and close. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

,

I agree with you that slippage is important and should be taken into account. I also export my data to excel. I created a cell for costs. I entered $10. My trade result formula is ((SellPrice - BuyPrice) - Costs)). You can change the amount in the cell to see how an increase/decrease will affect the bottom line.

Thank you both for your comments.
Speaking of interactive brokers, I just opened an account with them. Waiting for the funds to be accepted. I like the flexibility & choices they offer for trading. I think it may solve this problem.
A really good example of the problem is the following:
Last night I put in a buy on Etrade for a stock which closed at $2.30. The bid was tiny and the ask was over $11. It executed at very close to the open but it's scary. I did a test buy on Ameritrade and the same bid/ask was quoted. The difference between both companies was that Etrade showed the total cost of the trade was the number of shares X close price. Ameritrade's total cost was number of shares X inflated ask price, about five times as much.

heyen,

Thanks for your comments. That's where I'm a little confused. I'm putting my order in pre-market to trade at the open. At least that's my intention. I don't want to trade pre-market. But there's no OPEN choice when I put the trade in the night before, only a MARKET choice. I've done it a few times and even though the bid/ask prices have been skewed overnight, I've always got the proper opening price. Just wondering if it's ever possible that it would go through at the inflated price.
Thanks,
glider

I sometimes put in an overnight buy or sell for a stock. The prices can be way out of whack. For example, a stock closed at $2.30, but the ask is $11. There are many examples like this. Is it safe to put in an overnight buy in this case. I know they correct themselves at open but I'm wondering if anyone ever got caught paying an exorbitant price in such a situation.
Thanks,

rtucker

Thanks for the information.
I was looking at this from the backtesting and filtering point of view and how reliable the backtesting results are. I am not a day trader. So it was strictly as outlined, buy & sell at open, and a five day hold. Somewhere in those five days the "Q" was added and I'm assuming it didn't affect a persons holding and the backtesting results are valid.

This stock came up on a filter of mine:

Company: SRLS (SeraCare Life Sciences Incorported)
Trigger Date: 3/23/06. Price: 1.75
Buy Date: Next day open at $1.62
Hold: 5 days
Sell Date: 3/31/06 open at $3.60
Gain: 122%
Company: SRLS (SeraCare Life Sciences Incorported)

I did not buy this stock. It now goes under the symbol of SRLSQ. I can't find any information on the change.
My question is: was this a realistic buy for that period of time. If not, then the backtest results are very unreliable.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Judge,

Thanks for posting your filter.
I have a question on one you posted a couple of months ago. It's as follows:

Show stocks where RSI(2)is less than 1 two days ago
close is between 0.2 and 100
and close 1 day ago more than 10% below close 2 day ago
and close more then 10% below close 1 day ago
and price * volume > 100000

My question is regarding the last line.
Does it mean price X volume is greater than 100,000
For example, if price is .25, then volume should be not less than 400,000.
.25 X 100,000 = 400,000.

Thanks in advance
