I have found SEA and FAA for shipping and airlines respectvely.

FAA has very thin volume. II will have to look into the risks trading such a thin ETF

Wonder if it is similar to trading a thin stock..........

Looks like REITS , retail e-commerce , and restaraunts stick out as decent swing trade setups.

About 25 days ago several restaraunts set up for a swing trade and did ok.
Someone is picking PNRA on another thread.

DRN and other real estate etfs seem oversold.

AMZN is one of those retail e-commerce.

Im not happy that stockfetcher cant assign an industry group to the likes of POT and BTU
Comes up with that ubickquicktus NA.... hows that for spelin.

I also would have liked better results in 2009 (who wouldnt)

Got me thinking of monkeys and darts.....

My 1st attempt at system design this morning had me pick 4 random letter SDAM and arrange them
into all possible combos and pug into a watchlist.

Buy on CLOSE REACHED A NEW 10 DAY HIGH

sell after 7 days no stops.

Start time april 1st 2009 to now.

About 150 trades with anualized return of 50%.

A reminder for me to step away from the keyboard and go live life.

"Its a bull market Ya know....." 'Old man Partridge from Livermore's Reminiscenses.'

And ya... I know you freaks and nerds ...... they are nice letters....

Im watching for the long oil's (UCO,USO) to bump into resistance along with
China's tightening/slowing growth/demand/lending. Maybe a swing trade coming in the bear (DTO)

DRN ( a volatile sucker) bouncing today made me look at AHT (too late). Seems like everything
REIT today (a little oversold lately) moved. Gonna take a shot at DDR with a stop at LOD. Or just maybe DRN...

Thanks for the advice Drew9.

By the way JohnPaul..... if you see things in your travels like airlines or coal as a group making a move
could you drop a line here..

Without others occaisionally tossing thougths/idea out this thread will die cause Im about tapped out....
and I aint no moderator.....

ETF break-out, upper BB freaks welcome also....

Any ETF trade setups / ideas / thoughts anyone?

Easy as pie stops.........

volatility based stops so that GOOG will feel similar to STEC

Fetcher[set{ATRDOLLARS, 2 * atr(5)}
set{STOPPRICE, close - ATRDOLLARS}
draw STOPPRICE on plot close
close > 50
avg vol(90) > 1000000
add column ATRDOLLARS
add column STOPPRICE
]

1) Determine rough estimate of dollar loss your willing to take.
Expect price shocks occasionally. (gap downs)
ie: $100. expected loss.

2) (Divide) $100 / ATRDOLLARS = number shares to buy.

3) Set stop loss at STOPPRICE

Look at some charts and see if you 1,2,3,4 * atr . Or atr(1), atr(10) etc....

For example you can buy about 6 shares of GOOG today with a ( 2 * atr(5)) stop of 590.07

How about a thread where all things ETF can be dumped ?

I could be wrong , but, there could be some interest out there.
I miss a lot as I dont watch markets everyday......but , my thinking
is that if a hundred people out there are watching a hundred etfs
then not much will be missed.

I recently noticed the Bull and Bear 3X Treasury 10 and 30 year indices.
The Bear pair seem to be tradeable as a proxy for rising rates. That is
going to happen isnt it? For years to come isnt it? So I'm told.....

Also, I read that a new palladium metals ETF has been approved.
PAL and SWC may benefit from that....

Drew9 recently informed of the new 3x China bull/bear. Low volume but
Its gonna catch on.. Funny my Stockfetcher filters wont disply CZM which is in
my LONGS watchlist.

With jobs, families, IRA's these "new" products may actually be enough,
or, a "core" for many people.....non-professional traders that is.....

Etfs seem to be useful when oversold filters give way too many hits at those times
when the market is oversold. Maybe focus position size/risk on one 3x proxy with no
company risk.

I dont like the bear etfs......

Anyone else ..... Dont be shy.

1)
If your a trader that buys trending stocks on weakness your not even
looking at AAPL for entry here. AAPL can go to the moon but oh well.... wait.
Im waiting for weakness to sell some and will give back some too see.
Im waiting.

2)
If you a breakout trader then wait till it breaks out. It may move or fail ...... who knows.

3)
If what your really trying to do is figure out before hand which direction it will go then
look to the fortune tellers on some other threads.

I like your contrary thinking Mike..... but if I go where you suggest ie: designing system2 based
on failiures of system1 (a very old concept) it aint good.....

Much better to keep it very simple for me and buy AAPL's on pullbacks in a bull market.
It is STILL a bull market. long and stong(Alf44) months ago is still right untill proven otherwise.

AAPL has bailed me out of trading mistakes because it has simply been on the right
side of big money... Ive learned that I am not as good or bad at trading as I think. Knowing
that I just try to go with the big money. GS has me thinking along those line right now.

But.... all this chicken soup talk does not gaurentee for a second that I or anyone will make
money because as we alll know..... it aint that easy Good luck.
