Sell the Bid, Buy the Ask...

But try and work the trade so you get a bit better price than the bid, Never a market order as they will take advantage of you...

If you wanted to buy from a watchlist of solid stocks... those that have moved 2 standard deviations from their average

would you simply use outside the Bollinger to accomplish that?
or is there a better way to show a 2 SD move?

General Discussion · 2008 redux and your version of Market Timing?

If you had to relive 2008, what would you use to move your 401k to cash ~ and back in at the appropriate time?

I am comfortable day and swing trading, but I second guess myself with long term assets...

Would rely on?
SPY dropping < ma (200)
Slope of the 50 ma or 200ma?
10/30 weekly ma cross?
50/100 daily ma cross?
Simple support and Resistance of the SPY?
A relative strength matrix of 10 asset classes and seeing cash moving up the list.
The last 90days being positive ~ keeping you invested. (Check weekly)

Every time I look at SPY in 2008 ish, I wonder if I would do a better job stepping to the side and getting in before missing 30% of the move back up, that the moving averages provided in early 2009.
The moving averages cross (ma (50) ... around 90, missing the first 30% of the up move...

Even when I feel I am using a solid filter to derive ideas, When I backtest it, It shows a 2 year 53/47% success and an annualized return of 3% or something low.

When I setup a backtest:
I usually say keep a max of 5 stocks and set a stop loss of 10% and a sell at a 15% profit.

Do you have an example of a backtest that has reliably performed and perhaps you can share the filter while you're at it...

Can you explain how you setup the filter defaults...

Perhaps I am doing this wrong...

Kevin, I would love to see your latest take on this too.

From an investment standpoint, we have had a robust market since 1993-2015, except for 2000-2003 and 2008; albeit big exceptions.

Couldn't you argue to be 100% SPY, except when the SPY performance over the last 30 or 60 days is negative and use Fridays close as the measure.

Once a week check it.
Last 60 days positive - in
Last 60 days neg - out - AGG if you like

How do you rank all the sp500 stocks and rank them by comparative relative strength
versus the sp500.

I'm pretty sure you need to pick a period to compare , say the last 20 days? or

Does IBD use a combination on 5,10,20 ,30 ,60 days to compute their 90,90 style indicator?
