If you wait for the acceleration band to be breached for a bounce, you're never going to be in. The last time it got there was October.

To each their own, of course, but I see the midpoint of the band to be more of a signal.

FWIW, I added to my position at 68.99 about 10 minutes ago.

The simple IFT filter for volatility triggered today for the first time in about six weeks (UVXY to be specific). The question is whether this is a trailing indicator representing today's action or whether there will be an additional spike tomorrow. Traditionally it has been accurate as a predictor, FWIW.

@Graf. When both groups are compressed, do you read this as a bullish or bearish signal? Or do you use this in concert with some other indicator?

*Maybe the answer is that I should read the book. :)

FWIW, I'm also utilizing this plan. As the market has grown stretched to the upside, I sold stocks that were overextended in my opinion. This created a pile of cash which I used to sell puts against those shares that I was interested in getting back into at prices that I deemed more reasonable. Did I lose out on some gains by selling "early?" Sure. But, I'm comfortable waiting for a correction or bear market and taking scalps in the form of put premiums in the interim. These are all "singles" though...no home runs here.

FWIW, the much simpler IFT Trigger for volatility has signals an entry to TVIX or UVXY for tomorrow. It has been ages since there's been a buy sign on the simple trigger for volatility.

Not my filter.

I know you're not asking me, but I bought a little VXX insurance going into Friday by purchasing a handful of 1/27 calls.

Just for protection, not looking to rake in huge profits. Decision was not based on the results of any of my filters.

I will admit to being confused by that move in the VIX as well. I know we've seen a couple of instances of volatility moving up with the market recently, but it still surprises me every time it happens. Tomorrow has to show a retracing, I would expect. The rubber bands are all stretched to their limits right now.

Thank goodness that's the signal I chose to follow by going long XIV at $41.50 on December 2.

Fair enough, I agree that both systems have the ability to be profitable (and have proven as such over time).
