@ Smpoll,

Here is graftonian's white space approach. Look for value of white space crossing 1.

@ dashover

Thanks again for http://www.whyisthemarketup.com/FinancialWriters.

DAVID LAREW of @ThinkTankCharts has removed hus StockCharts public list
and his posts seem to be all politics.

Please consider replacing @ThinkTankCharts on whyisthemarketup
with @cobramarketview, which has intraday updates, an active forum
and a good public chart list.

Thank you, dash.

@ SAFeTRADE

Thank you !

More newbie follow-up questions: How do you handle witching days, and the few days before and after witching?
For example, last Friday Sep 21 Quad Witching day, when both SPY and $VIX futures contango dropped
for their own reasons, did you still rely on the same filter, or did you look at additional ratios like $spx:$vix and spy:vxx ?

Glad to have you as a resident $VIX expert with StockFetcher forum.

@ SAFeTRADE

Thank you for showing the use of OR in stockfetcher, and for the Vance Harwood's link.

Honest question: If the purpose is to better trade SPY, why would we want to detour
through volatility when your three chosen indicators macd, %b and rsi did an excellent
job in giving the same (or even faster) signals than the derived volatility-based signals?

@ Ed S.

Thank you for sharing your research and for welcoming suggestions.

Perhaps, you have heard of Peter L Brandt. Peter is known as one of the decent people on Twitter.
Peter openly volunteered that his win rate was around 42% (38% to 45%), which is close to yours
in this case.

Peter calculated that even with a win rate of 50%, people should expect many series of continuous
losses and even an occasional dip to a win rate of 20%. So, with a win rate of less than 50%,
Peter's default expectation is that his next trade will be a loss. That thinking is helpful to
his loss management. He cautions that a focus on win rate is actually an obsession with
being right, and our focus should really be on win size and loss size.

Still, a reader offered this suggestion: Peter, if your win rate is 38%, then why not do the opposite?
Would your win rate not become 62%?

Unfortunately, I haven't seen any reply and that discussion has also disappeared.

I hope that you will find an "opposite" approach with ema8 & rsi4 that may give you a 67% win rate.

Good luck, Ed.
