My wife looks after my accounting. No, you don't need to start a company to trade and you don't need to declare income to the IRS because you trade US equities. Remember, capital gains/loss must be converted to Canadian dollars using Bank of Canada conversion rate on the day of transaction or use the average conversion rate for the year supplied by your broker....hth.

I always heard it was a good idea to set up a limited liability company if you plan on trading options or futures on margin...
a Flash crash could wipe you out with auto margin calls...
